Play is a Disruptor!

Play is such a disruptor! And in the best possible way :)

The last few days have been a flurry of activity for a really great reason: my partner and I are headed to Mexico early tomorrow morning!

This means my mind gets extra zeroed in on what needs to be done so that I can go and relax. As a result, I woke up this morning with a headache and feeling quite tired.

I started working and really felt like I was being driven by some kind of fear or unhelpful belief instead of the excitement or inspiration that I like to be driven by.

My markers called to me.

(Thank goodness I have learned to listen to them 95% of the time.)

This doodle appeared and it spoke to me about play and the power it has to disrupt such unhelpful thoughts or plaguing limiting beliefs. Many of those thought patterns would have me believe some really yucky things such as I have to "deserve" my fun time, I have to work non-stop or I will be punished, if I am not being productive, I am being irresponsible or lazy...

I know these things are not true, but they somehow sneak in there when I let busy-ness take over. And I know they have when I feel very serious, heavy, and harsh!

This is why play is such the anecdote and such the disruptor! Doodling is one of my favorites, but I have other playful go-to's as well including:

* go outside
* dance with my partner in the kitchen
* watch a funny video
* play with the kitties
* pull some tarot cards...

Then, the heaviness subsides, my energy changes, and I can return more mindfully and playfully in my work.

Experiencing play reminds us that we do not have to wait to enjoy life, that we all have a right to have fun in our days, that relentless work is not healthy on so many levels, and that we are taking responsibility for our overall well-being by lightening up and finding what feels good!

And let's not forget how play brings new inspiration, new creative ideas, and opens our eyes to synchronicities and wonder - a much more "productive" way to do anything!

What are your playful go-to's?
