How Do You Talk to Yourself?

We are not always nice to ourselves.

Many times I notice some pretty nasty thoughts creep up as I create. Sometimes these nasty thoughts keep me from my creative work in the first place.

And sometimes I am super sweet and loving to myself. Sometimes I feel really good as I make things and totally enjoy the process!

Instead of letting it be a shot in the dark, we can be more intentional. We can take some time to clearly identify those thoughts and take advantage of neuroplasticity to create a more nurturing environment in our minds! This creative tool on self-talk will help you to do that.

Imagine a child. They are trying to do something and perhaps the results are less than stellar. What happens if you tell them it isn’t that good? Most likely they will feel bad and stop doing it. Sadly, many have had this experience in art classrooms growing up and the negative experience haunts them their whole lives.

But if you tell them how awesome it is that they are working so hard on it - if you tell them that you love how they are enjoying the messy process - they seem to light up and keep going! Who knows where they might take it with such encouragement?! Maybe they will never be a Van Gogh, but they will have more fun making than Van Gogh ever did and that experience will empower them creatively for years to come. Or maybe they will have fun and be as good as Van Gogh. Either way, there are only positive possibilities!

You are such a child, all grown-up, but still tender and impressionable. Only now you get to decide. How will you treat yourself? What new thoughts might you choose to empower you on your creative journey?

This is your last week to sign up for the Create It Class where we will learn powerful tools for positive thoughts which create positive experiences to get you making! Registration ends THIS FRIDAY on 4/2/21.
